My main project at the moment is a nonfiction book about how recent technological innovations have encouraged the emergence of new forms of art and culture. This is a natural outgrowth of the arts journalism I’ve been practicing for the last few years, and my interest in how new technologies affect our daily lives and culture. In time, first-draft fragments of this book will be published here under an appropriate tag.

When I’m not working on the book, I’m usually serving as the Film Editor of the Rumpus, editing the Conversations About The Internet series for the site, or reviewing movies and books, here, there, and elsewhere. Since 2006 I have written about film, books, art, graffiti, comics, and other things of interest to me, online and in print, for a variety of publications: see the list below for details.

I’ve been a San Francisco Bay Area / Silicon Valley resident my whole life, apart from brief periods spent in Denver and Mexico and France (to list them both chronologically and in descending order of length of stay). In mid-2007, I finally stopped resisting the gravitational pull of San Francisco itself, and made my home in the midst of the city, hopefully for good.

Above all, I try to work hard and be nice to people. But one is never perfect.

STAFF WORK & BLOGGING

  • In June 2009, I became a regular contributor and blogger at The Rumpus, ultimately becoming the series editor for the Conversations About the Internet and the Film Editor in early November. Most of the posts I make there are cross-posted here with the tag the.rumpus.
  • In early 2009, I was briefly a contributor to the SF Appeal. Several of the pieces I contributed there have been reprinted on this site, and will eventually all be tagged sf.appeal (this must be done manually, so it will take a while).
  • From April 2008 to May 2009, I was a regular blogger on SF Metblogs. As above, many of those pieces have been reprinted on this site and they will eventually be tagged sf.metblogs.
  • Prior to April 2008, I primarily wrote at my first blog, Ynpossybull! The best of those posts are being imported onto this site a handful at a time.
