SFIFF52: Next Frame Picks for 5/5

[The Lost World.]

Today’s picks are posting a little late (sorry!), but if you haven’t decided yet, here’s what looks good to me:

6:00 French Girl. This contender for the New Directors Prize is the story of a eighteen-year-old girl, born in France but living in Morocco, who remains intent upon maintaining her French identity despite her parents’ insistence that she observe Arab North African ways. Actress Hafsia Herzi was in last year’s The Secret of the Grain. Also screening tomorrow, 5/6, at 9 PM.

6:30 Still Walking. This screening is your last chance to check out the Kore-Eda film before its theatrical release later this year (in the fall, I’ve heard).

And of course, the big “Live and Onstage” event of the night is a screening of The Lost World, with Dengue Fever providing the music, at 8:00 PM. It’s expected to sell out, but if you still haven’t gotten tix there’s hope for you yet: last year’s show with Black Francis similarly sold out, but they delayed the start of the show in part to sell out the rush tix and get everyone in. But show up early to be first in line if you’re going to attempt that trick. Good luck!
