In the Loop Premieres Tonight at SFIFF52

One of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year at SFIFF52 is Armando Ianucci’s In the Loop, a dark comedy about the origins of a certain war in the Middle East.
Yes, a comedy. It’s kind of a cross between The Office and Dr. Strangelove, and I laughed the whole way through it. Although there are some risks to watching it: now whenever I try to say something tough-minded, I keep hearing Peter Capaldi shouting this at me: “you sound like a f***in’ Nazi Julie Andrews!” The movie features brilliant performances from Capaldi, Tom Hollander, Gina McKee, Mimi Kennedy, James Gandolfini, and many, many others. Plus there’s a cameo from Steve Coogan! What more can you ask for?
I’ll be interviewing Mr. Ianucci tomorrow morning, so check back here for a full review and Q&A about the film when it’s released by Landmark on 7/31.
In the Loop premieres tonight at 9:30 at the Kabuki as part of SFIFF52; Mr. Ianucci is expected to attend the screening and conduct a Q&A afterwards. There will be one additional screening on May 2nd.
